My Life in 8 Words

Author Revealed

Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. My mother was a great one for maxims, me less so.  However, I'm a great believe in optimism, however unfounded.  Plus I always like to have my next holiday booked and planned.

Q. Which living person do you most admire?

A. I was born cynical I'm afraid.

Q. If you could meet any historical character, who would it be and what would you say to him or her?

A. Sally Naldrett, of course, the main character from 'The Mistress of Nothing'! I'd love to find out what really happened to her after she left Lucie Duff Gordon's household.

Q. With whom in history do you most identify?

A. The servants and labourers and teachers; the people who worked hard and are not remembered, like many generations of my family.

Q. Who is your favorite fictional villain?

A. Count Dracula, from the novel 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker

I am so looking forward to 'The Mistress of Nothing' coming out in the US.  This will be my 'American debut' and I really hope that readers in the US enjoy the book.  I'm so pleased to be working with Touchstone, Simon & Schuster.

Publication isn't for another seven weeks.... but the countdown is definitely on!
