Edgar Wallace (1875–1932) was a prolific British crime writer, journalist and playwright, with over 170 novels and 900+ short stories to his name. Despite a disadvantaged start, he became a war correspondent before writing popular detective thrillers. He wrote the initial screenplay for King Kong and over 160 films have been made out of his work.
