About The Author

Huang Yongyu, also known by his pen names Huang Xingbin, Huang Niu, and Niu Fuzi, was born in 1924 in Changde, Hunan, with ancestral roots in Fenghuang County, Hunan Province. He was a member of the Tujia ethnic group. Huang served as an academician of the China National Academy of Painting and a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, where he also held the position of Dean of the Printmaking Department. Additionally, he was the Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association.His notable print works include Portrait of Qi Baishi, Ye Shengtao’s Fairy Tales, Forest Series, Visiting the Troops, Portrait of Comrade Lei Feng, and Ashima. Among his representative Chinese paintings are Owl, Mountain Spirit, Zhezhi Dance, and Blessings of Nine Lotuses. His mural masterpiece, The Great Unity of the Chinese People, is widely acclaimed.
