About The Book

Sometimes you want to eat the ones you love…right? In this gorgeous horror-romance, river monster Jenny Greenteeth stalks a handsome academic through Boston after a chance encounter leaves her hungry and curious about the world she’s been hiding from.

Jenny Greenteeth prefers to keep her own company beneath the streets of Boston, where she’s lived for hundreds of years. With a conviction that she is far superior to humans—who are petty, dangerous, and fragile—she has no qualms about satisfying her hunger with their flesh. That is, until she comes face to face with a human man who, for the first time, she doesn’t want to eat (but also…she kind of does). Confused by these conflicting feelings, Jenny is intrigued.

So, when two city-dwelling cryptids take up residence in her station, she (begrudgingly) asks them to help her find this mystery man. Along the way, Jenny experiences the modern world for the first time—discovering catcalling, pigeons, protests, fashion, friendship, and Dunkin’ Donuts. On her quest to find the man she couldn’t eat at first sight, Jenny finds herself falling in love. And as she falls in love, two conflicting hungers grow within her—the hunger to be seen and understood and the hunger for human flesh.

Raves and Reviews

“A horribly delectable and deliciously horrifying fish out of water tale about a monster pursuing love, Jenny Will Eat You Now merges the humanity of a monster and the monstrousness of humanity into a perfect symphony of camp, horror, and heart.” —Delilah S. Dawson, New York Times bestselling author of Bloom and House of Idyll

"Delightfully gory and rife with my favorite horror trope: people being eaten. Jenny Will Eat You Now is a bittersweet love letter to loneliness, accepting yourself, and being cherished for who you are – even if who you are is considered monstrous." —Bonnie Quinn, bestselling author of the How to Survive Camping series

"If I didn't already know, you'd have a hard time convincing me Jenny Will Eat You Now is Gillian Daniels' debut novel; it's that good! Easy, confident prose gives life to characters, both fantastical and real, who fully live (and sometimes kill) on the page. I dare you not to love Jenny Greenteeth as she stumbles through modern Boston, modern love, and ravenous hunger.—Bracken MacLeod, Shirley Jackson Award finalist and author of Closing Costs and Let Not Your Sorrow Die

“Daniels’s delectable debut blends a droll fish-out-of-water story with English folklore, visceral body horror, and surprisingly tender romance… Jenny is undeniably a monster, but Daniels depicts her with empathy, complexity, and humor. It’s a clever spin on a familiar story that shows human life from an entertaining new perspective.” Publishers Weekly

“A decadent and feral horror love story that slips its teeth in slowly. You will want to savor every bite of JENNY WILL EAT YOU NOW, which lingers on the tongue long after the final page. Aching, sharp, and impossible to forget, Daniels expertly crafts a tale exploring how being loved is to be consumed. I adored it!” —Cat Scully, author of Below the Grand Hotel

“Jenny’s mix of arrogance, naivete, and loneliness make her an incredibly compelling protagonist and narrator… Daniels debuts with a horroromance that embraces the monstrous. It’s creepy, gory, and sweet in equal parts.” Library Journal

“A fish out of water story with an absurdist bend that evokes the cinema of Yorgos Lanthimos and the sincerity of a middle school romance. It is dark as it is bright—which is to say a story in total harmony and balance, and we all have the pleasure of bearing witness.” —Aquino Loayza, author of Deep and The Monologist
