About The Book

EVER SINCE THE UPRISINGS OF 2020, consumers and employees alike have demanded more accountability from US business leaders. As a leadership coach, author Dr. Adriane Johnson - Williams noted the increasing volume of demands but saw no guidance out in the world that makes the work of organizational change for equity clear. That’s when she decided to write this book.

The author simply asks this of you: Give her — this book, its calendar, activities, and additional provided resources included — 90 days. Spend this time with her and she’ll challenge you to examine who you are as a leader and a person. You’ll look at how you value others, how you are a reflection on your organization, and how to discover how you want to be reflected in the world.

In Not Your Father’s Capitalism, Johnson - Williams distinguishes diversity and inclusion from equity and shows readers how to build a diverse team and inclusive culture — and what it really means to commit (or not) to race equity.

This book should be required reading for every organization from local non-profits to the Fortune 500 as it reflects a reality that few wish to acknowledge – but that every modern leader should. Adriane Johnson-Williams convincingly transcends the standard practice of simply throwing acronyms and committees at the systemic issue of race equity, and instead provides a practical and useful guide for actual results. Johnson-Williams illustrates a deep and insightful understanding of organizational cultures and what it takes to shift the paradigm. Her book not only calls on us all to do better, to be better leaders, it gives us a framework for doing so.

Authentically bringing about transformational change requires a new mindset — a shift in consciousness. This book not only raises profound questions, it also provides practices and exercises that equip the reader to see the world through new eyes and possibly a change of heart. A couple of vital questions that surfaced for me were: How can US capitalism truly be a benefit to humanity? Am I willing to be a leader in advancing this effort?

Dr. Johnson-Williams provides a powerful perspective on the state of capitalism in the modern era. This book raises complex and difficult questions that have been largely overlooked by academics and professionals alike. It is a must read for people interested in coming up with solutions for many of today’s societal issues.
