About The Book

A new hardcover collector's edition series for classic RIP KIRBY newspaper strips.

A gorgeous hardcover collection of Alex Raymond's post-war crime classic!

Created in 1946 after Raymond's return from duty in World War II, Rip Kirby was a new kind of detective, breaking from the hard-boiled traditions of the time. Kirby was smart and sophisticated and often applied scientific methods to his crime-solving techniques, but was still involved in plenty of action—he was an All-American athlete and decorated war hero. Co-written with Ward Greene, the strip often addressed contemporary issues, including human trafficking and atomic weapons.

Highly conscious of the fashions of the day, Raymond brought early-’50s chic to the designs for Rip and his supporting cast, especially Desmond, his valet and assistant, and Rip's girlfriend, Honey Dorian. This archival collection presents the original strips in high-quality detail with a historical essay by former director of the Museum of Cartoon Art Brian Walker and an introduction by Raymond biographer Tom Roberts.
