About The Book

She'll take ghosts over solving her own problems any day.

While navigating the mysteries of the afterlife, Joy Ravenna - a transgender parapsychologist, must also deal with the very real challenges of her past and present. Her first post-transition relationship, a hostile ex-wife, and clues to murder long forgotten will test her at every twist and turn. For Joy, working with ghosts is way easier than dealing with the living.

Raves and Reviews

The Science of Ghosts is remarkable. Altogether creepy and mysterious, but with joy, laughter, and so much heart throughout. As a lover of genre fiction, I am thrilled. As a trans woman, I am seen and understood. As a writer and creator, I'm jealous as hell of the feat this team pulled off because damn, it's not fair how good this book is. Read it, or I swear I'm going to haunt you until you do.

–Tilly Bridges, Writer Monster High and Begin Transmission: The Trans Allegories of The Matrix

The Science of Ghosts is a creepy beautiful work of queer horror, with one of the most unforgettable heroines I've encountered in a very long time. Lilah Sturges and El Garing single-handedly reinvent the ghost story, creating something utterly unforgettable."

–Charlie Jane Anders, Writer New Mutants: Lethal Legion

“When I read The Science of Ghosts, I expected science and ghosts. What I didn’t expect was an engrossing murder mystery that shines a light on a fundamental question we face as humans: what will we sacrifice to know the truth? With gorgeous art, this queer X-Files-esque story kept me guessing until the very last page.”

–David M. Booher, writer of Ghostbusters, Dungeons & Dragons, Killer Queens

"I adore Lilah Sturges' work in the comic sphere and The Science of Ghosts is no different. The story is well aware of its predecessors in the paranormal mystery realm (the art also pays homage in a lovely inked and noir style) but does so many new and interesting things with the genre, starting (but not ending) with a complex and engrossing transgender protagonist to guide us through all the twists and turns. I loved it."

–Mickey George, writer of The Heart Hunter and Speak Easy, Speak Love

"A thrilling paranormal mystery with a unique approach to ghosts and a compelling transgender protagonist dealing with ghosts of her own. The expressive and atmospheric art will have you searching faces and shadows for clues, while the twisty investigation will pull you in and never let go. I would love twenty more of these, please."

–Tarun Shanker, co-writer of Championess and These Vicious Masks

The Science of Ghosts is perfection itself! One of the most compelling and intense ghost stories I've read in ages, blending unforgettable characters with superb detective fiction and the kind of heartfelt LGBT+ rep we crave. Sturges storytelling paired with Garing's bold and elegant illustrative style is a match made in heaven. This is essential reading for any supernatural and horror graphic novel fan!”

–Rosie Talbot, writer of Sixteen Souls and Twelve Bones
